Alright, Dad, let’s talk about staying on task. You know how it is – one minute you’re focused on hammering nails, and the next, you’re caught up in a daydream about a fishing trip. Or maybe your crew is arguing about the best way to frame a wall, and it’s pulling you in different directions.
Jesus, our man, knew a thing or two about staying focused. He had a big job to do – saving the world. And even though he was surrounded by distractions, he kept his eye on the prize.
In Mark 8, Jesus tells his buddies about how he’s gonna suffer and die. Instead of getting it, Peter tries to talk some sense into him. Can you imagine that? Your best friend telling you you’re on the wrong track when you know you’re doing God’s work?
Then, in Mark 9, the guys start arguing about who’s the boss. Talk about a mood killer! But Jesus doesn’t let it throw him off. He teaches ‘em a lesson about leadership: the greatest is the one who serves others. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s the truth.
Jesus’ focus was always on his Dad and the mission. He knew what he had to do, and nothing was gonna stop him. That’s the kind of determination we need on the job site.
Remember, we’ve got a mission too. Matthew 28:19-20 tells us to make disciples. That’s a big job, but it starts with our families, our neighbors, and the people we work with.
So, the next time you’re faced with distractions – a noisy job site, a tough boss, or whatever – remember Jesus. Keep your eyes on the prize and finish strong.
Let’s get back to work!
